Reviews

Now this was a major

"Now this was a major discovery. A Malaysion fairy tale that has such a feel of dread in it's isolated setting and the small cast does a really nice job. The 21 minute making of was pretty good too showing the behind the scenes moments that were pretty entertaining. Great movie."

Foreign Folk Horror

"Roh is a quietly chilling piece of folk horror that uses its lush jungle setting and Malay mythology to build a slow‑burn sense of dread that sticks with you long after it’s over. The film’s striking cinematography and atmospheric tension elevate this low‑budget indie, making it feel both timeless and unsettling. If you’re into horror that favors eerie mood and cultural depth over jump scares, Roh is a hauntingly memorable ride."

Folk Horror

"A mesmerizing, atmospheric, slow burn piece of Malaysian folk horror. I would love to see more folk horror out of Asia, especially Southeast Asia."

Joe Z. (4/5)

Misery porn and folk horror

"Misery porn and folk horror continue to make strong bedfellows, offering a continuous exploration of the world's various legends and myths and then punishing us as viewers for it. This one has some peaks and valleys, but its peaks are strong and impactful enough that it makes up for the lulls, as well as offering the maybe the simplest, small-scale entry in a while but still delivering more impactful moments than films much bigger than it."

Dustin B. (4/5)

Spooky

"Lots of beautiful shots in this one. Slow and filled with atmosphere. If you dig movies like The Vvitch grab this one."

Nick M. (4/5)

Malaysian Mysticism

"A complete blind buy based on description and trailer - I love a slow burn folk horror tale. Described as something like a Malaysian version of The Witch, and obviously not taking that as a direct comparison, this sounded good to me. What I got was indeed a twisted little Malaysian folk tale of mysticism type horror. Slow burn, but short enough to stay engaged, I would definitely recommend this flick to fans of the genre. Extra points for the subtly cool cover art too."

Steven B. (4/5)
