Never released outside of Japan, FUJI_JUKAI.MOV is an eerie found footage horror movie from filmmaker Katsumi Sakashita. The story follows Ami, a high school student who travels to the Jukai forest to take her own life. But when students Mi-tan and Hinata interrupt Ami's plans, an even darker side of the forest is revealed. The first J-horror feature to be filmed entirely on an iPhone, FUJI_JUKAI.MOV combines true crime chills with ambitious unfiction to build an unsettling experience that's a true discovery for found footage archeologists.

Reviews

Beautifully Haunting Use of Location

"This could have been a lot more exploitative, and I’m glad it’s not. Feels like a horror movie for the sensitive kids. Great use of the found footage conceit, and something I never would have heard of if not for Bleeding Skull. Great extras from Ziemba and Jenny Nulf."

Maxim P. (4/5)

Great foreign found footage

"Great scenes in the forest adds to the atmosphere of dread and foreboding. It starts off with the girls giving strange vibes not really showing the viewer what’s going to happen but then a twist ending."

Timothy D. (5/5)

MOV

"This modern found footage film seems unusual for Bleeding Skull to help release, but it's perfectly up their alley and aligns with their mission statement"

Richard M. (4/5)

Japanese Horror

"A really great take on the found footage style movies. Blind bought and really enjoyed"

Nathanial P. (5/5)

While people think it's easy

"While people think it's easy to make a found footage flick it really isn't but this one is so creepy and well done. Quality-wise this one is way above the rest and it actually feels like the footage was found. Great presentation by Bleeding Skull that is doing the Lord's work."

Bryan K. (5/5)

Unseen gem

"Absolutely love this found footage oddity. Brilliant movie well worth your time."

Ian S. (5/5)

A modest little Japanese found-footage

"A modest little Japanese found-footage movie about a group of schoolgirls who make a journey into the "suicide forest. " The plan is for one of them to kill herself, while her companions plan to observe and record the event. Naturally, things don't quite play out that way. The location is very intriguing and memorable, but the film itself is a little underwhelming. A surprising release from Bleeding Skull, but not an unwelcome one."

Simon B. (3/5)

Creepy Found Footage

"This is one of the better Bleeding Skull releases. Disturbing material, I couldn’t stop watching. Highly recommended."

Jeffrey L. (5/5)

Suspenseful found footage movie

"This was a pretty good found footage movie, although it’s one of those movies which seems to be telling you how scary it is without actually being that scary. Regardless, I liked the main characters and it kept me interested until the end. I wasn’t sure what to make of the white-robed people with red Stars-of-David on their outfits, but most everything else made sense. Unfortunately, the “partial” commentary only lasted for about 20 minutes and wanted running during the white-robed segment. The release also includes the version released on VHS, which doesn’t seem to add anything as far as the viewing experience goes - except for low resolution viewing, burnt in subtitles and (oddly) windowboxing, where there are black bars on both the top/bottom and the sides. The back covers says that it was the first J-Horror feature filmed entirely on an iPhone, but the picture looked pretty good to me on my 55-inch Sony TV. I really liked the front and back of the slipcover and the movie comes with different art on the inner sleeve and more different art on the back of that sleeve. All-in-all, an impressive package which would have been better served by a commentary which lasted the entire feature."

No witches here. . . . maybe

"Very nice looking found footage movie. Surprise. This is the first time it's been released in the United States. I can see what the subject matter. It being a little difficult to distribute, but it's handled in a great way. This was a blind by but I trust bleeding skull with found footage movies. A little light on the special features but the ones that are there are worth watching. Great slipcover but no booklet."
