32-year-old Ichiko (Sakura Ando, Shoplifters) lives at home in self-indulgent grunginess with her parents and recently divorced younger sister. One morning, after a particularly heated argument, Ichiko decides to leave for good. With few options to support herself, she finds a job at a 100 yen shop (dollar store). Each day on her way home from work Ichiko passes a boxing gym where she watches Yuji Kano (Hirofumi Arai) silently practice. The two make plans to see each other, and suddenly life starts to change for Ichiko... At last, the bell rings, and this longtime loser's rematch with life begins!

Unique Boxing Film

"I found the movie balanced a light comedic tone with serious plot points effectively; it was engaging through and through. While not visually groundbreaking, it does offer a unique tone and perspective from boxing film that I haven't seen in the genre before. As for the packaging and technical quality, Vinegar Syndrome alway delivers great quality."

It's funny I never watch

"It's funny I never watch any sports but I always love films about sports. This one was right up my alley. The characters are all very well defined and the performances are all excellent. Sakuta Ando does such a great job in the lead role. Absolutely loved it."

Bryan K. (5/5)

Another banger

"Great to finally have this on Blu-ray after having the DVD for years"

Life

"Sakura Ando is incredible in this film. The transformation of her character wasn't the easiest watch the entire time, but it was well worth it. Sometimes life ain't easy and 100 Yen Love doesn't bs. The direction and performances are excellent. I wish there were more features, but the slipcover looks awesome!"

An Inspiring Story

"Thus film tells the story of a 32 year old slacker who gets kicked out of her house and fits a job at a 100 Yen shop. She finds a new passion and love interest in the sport of boxing. We see her trials and tribulations as she trains to become a good Boxer and pull herself up from poverty. Overall, it was an inspiring story of perseverance with a great performance from the leas actress. I would recommend seeing this movie."

100 Billion Yen Love

"Sakura Ando is amazing! She's not a former boxer. She's not a former athlete. She's one of Japan's most promising actress, having starred in two of Hirokazu Kore-eda's films. But in this film, she looks like a real boxer. Don't miss the final bout!"

Yasuhiro N. (5/5)

Great slip.

Guillermo M. (5/5)

Great Asian film

"Film movement continues to pump out incredible titles, combined with VS’ packaging"

Chris T. (5/5)

Sorta like that other money baby boxing movie

"Similarities to a similar movie are just surface level, I think this cast of characters and the story itself are very engaging, though some performances feel flat, it’s still definitely backed by strong leads, and I highly recommend!"

Bishop M. (5/5)

A sports movie
