Reviews

I previously picked up this

"I previously picked up this directors first two films, and although the writing isn’t always great, the visuals, all made out of paper, are breathtaking and unlike anything I’ve seen before on film. This film especially has some great moments, and probably has the best writing, keeping it more of an emotional journey. Making of doc is actually pretty solid and the artwork is perfectly fitting for the film."

A beautiful, unusual alice-in-wonderland-style journey

"I included a video of the beginning of the film to display the films animation, because it is, if not unique, a medium of animation you likely haven't seen often, especially in a feature film. The style has its limitations, mainly facial expressions and a bit of fluidity of motions. But it makes up for it with a lot of charm and some absolutely beautiful landscapes. The style also works to the strange fantastical forest and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it to life. The story of a young woman climbing the mountain because its something that her mother did with her that she was never able to complete, and the talking cats' story that parallels the themes of the humans jouney(no spoilers) has some evocative moments. It didnt hit me as hard emotionally as other stories, but that might just be me. My biggest complaint about the film is sometimes the dialogue is a little bit too sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek, lampshading the strange fantasy too much in an irritating way. But otherwise its a cool movie. The slipcover is also lovely, and the booklet with production information is a cool addition."

Quirky Animated Film

"I usually love these independent animated films but this one was just a little too slow for my tastes. Excellent packaging and presentation though."
