The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) represents the world's largest theatrical catalog of exploitation cinema. Their home video line presents a diverse selection of movies, ranging from new preservations of classics from the vast library of Something Weird to the wildest in shot-on-video (SOV) titles. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

Part of Britain’s new wave of hyper-realistic “Kitchen Sink” films, THE LEATHER BOYS is a riveting mix of teen angst, biker thrills, and raging emotion. The movie follows young newlyweds Reggie (Colin Campbell) and Dot (Rita Tushingham, A TASTE OF HONEY) as they embark on a new life together. But there’s trouble in paradise when Reggie develops feelings for Pete (Dudley Sutton), a member of a rival biker gang. Directed by Sidney J. Furie (THE ENTITY) and written by Gillian Freeman from her novel, THE LEATHER BOYS explodes with expressionistic photography, gripping themes, and a bold exploration of identity. Long unavailable on home video, AGFA + Shout! Factory are elated to present a sparkling new restoration of this important chapter of early queer cinema.

Reviews

Tender and Thoughtful British Drama

"A quietly powerful and ahead-of-its-time character study that still resonates today. The film’s emotional subtlety and strong performances are beautifully preserved in this presentation, with natural grain and solid contrast that suit its understated style. The extras add meaningful context, making this a well-rounded and respectful release. Highly recommended for fans of classic British cinema."

Noah F. (5/5)

Leather Boys

"Glad I got this and I need to check more of the AGFA library out!"

Philip M. (5/5)

AGFA does it again

"This is Criterion level cinema. Quality and transfer scream boutique. Not because AGFA isn’t fond of rescuing great films, like they did with “Effects” [1979], but because this is the type of film that you can usually see in those high snobby labels. An old, 1960s, beautiful LGBTQ story. Nowadays they’re more accessible and common, but back then these films were relinquished to be forgotten, ignored, or even attacked. This was a blind buy for me, firstly cause the premise sounded wonderful, secondly cause the American Genre Film Archive never ceases to astound me. Not just with weird stuff like “Fuck the Devil” [1990], but treasures such as this."

John R. (5/5)

Kitchen Sink Via Leather

"A wonderful mix of 1960's British kitchen-sink realism and biker boys film directed by Sidney J. Furie."

William G. (5/5)

Belongs in the Criterion Collection

"Honestly way too good for AGFA, I heard about this movie in film school and I’m glad I was finally able to pick it up. It’s a great release of this important film. Not a lot of special features, but still very happy to add it to my collection. Highly recommended."

Aidan Z. (5/5)

One of AGFA’s best releases!

"Terrific kitchen sink drama with queer undertones (somewhat restrained due to the era it was made). Gorgeous transfer too"

Christopher N. (5/5)

Essential Queer Cinema

"Blind buy that did not disappoint! Love to see AGFA put out queer cinema. The extras are phenomenal. Highly recommended."
