Let's get w-i-i-ild! SUPER SOUL BROTHER AND THE FILMS OF RENE MARTINEZ, JR. collects the anti-dimensional filmography of enigmatic, Miami-based DIY filmmaker Martinez for the first time on home video. In SUPER SOUL BROTHER (1978), naive wino Steve ("Wildman" Steve Gallon, PETEY WHEATSTRAW) is injected with a serum that gives him superhuman strength, a catch phrase ("I'm w-i-i-ild!"), and a quest to battle the mad scientists and crooks who made it all possible. THE GUY FROM HARLEM (1977) finds gritty private investigator Al Connors (Loye Hawkins) locked in mortal combat with crime kingpin Big Daddy in an explosion of cocaine, kung-fu, and funk jams. Finally, ROAD OF DEATH (1973) follows local rockers the Joe Banana Band and friends (including Carol Conners and Jack Birch, future parents of Thora "GHOST WORLD" Birch) as they seek revenge against a biker gang for their hideous crimes—complete with a shocking climax that predicts the final scene in Quentin Tarantino's DEATH PROOF. ""Supersoul Brother" was one of the first DVD release by AGFA back then, still branded as a VS release, before AGFA became a partner label (or the idea of partner labels were even a thing). It's a super funny, goofy low budget Blaxploitation crime comedy. “Wildman” Steve Gallon is hilarious. Look out for his special, deadly "weapon"! The DVD still looks pretty good, but now we have this wonderful new HD release of it and AGFA packed two more movies with it by the same director. The other two are a lot of fun as well, but don't compare to SSB. The transfers are proper Grindhouse, from 35mm prints and alook super crisp and perfect for this type of movies. Sadly there are no special features besides trailers and a gallery. I would have loved to see new interviews with cast or crew or a visual essay by an expert on Blaxploitation cinema or Chris Poggialli for example."

"AGFA continues to prove their among the best in the business with this release, propping up three movies almost nobody would go to bat for despite being charming in their own right. I'm particularly a fan of Supersoul Brother, a very funny movie made to showcase the talents of Wildman Steve Gallon. Each movie's print was rough but thankfully not too restored so the thick visual textures remained. I wish there were extra features for these movies but it's a miracle they got a release this good to begin with."
