Bigger, Bloodier and Far Too Long
"Commando Ninja 2: Invasion America delivers an even crazier mixture of 1980s and 1990s action references, throwing communists, cyborgs, zombies, dinosaurs and outrageous gore into one enormous low-budget adventure. The practical effects, ridiculous ideas and obvious passion behind the production make it consistently entertaining. It is not quite as funny or tightly paced as the first film, however. At nearly two and a half hours, the sequel is simply too long and occasionally becomes exhausting despite its impressive ambition. The retro soundtrack is enjoyable, although it does not reach the same heights as the music in Part One. The Blu-ray offers solid image quality, clear and powerful audio, and an excellent selection of extras, including a lengthy making-of documentary, director’s commentary and the atmospheric Hopkins prequel. Not as focused or immediately lovable as its predecessor, but still an enormously creative and bloody celebration of old-school action cinema."
