The lives of three residents of Redlands, California, intersect and ultimately collide in this claustrophobic exploration of radical creativity, sexuality and violence in America.
Vienna (Nicole Fox’s, America’s Next Top Model) is a young “alternative” nude model who lives with her musician boyfriend Zack (Sam Brittan) in Redlands, California – a bleak Inland Empire city sixty miles east of Los Angeles. Controlling and hypocritical, Zack uses Vienna’s earnings to further his own musical career as Vienna attempts to build a creative life of her own. Their lives are forever changed when Vienna meets Allan (Clifford Morts), a balding middle-aged amateur glamour photographer; unemployed and recently divorced, Allan’s unassuming behavior camouflages his feelings of inadequacy and his building resentment toward others.
John Brian King’s unflinchingly nihilistic neo-noir is…"Artfully evocative – of alienation, the constraints on ambition and the danger of unexpressed anger – and profoundly disturbing.” (Michael O’Sullivan, The Washington Post)

I Absolutely Love This Awesome Flick!
"This awesome flick is a slow burn throughout the entire movie! It's like a cannon shot in slow motion repeatedly resurfacing! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Redlands
"This one feels like a genuinely rewarding pickup: the Blu‑ray gives the film’s sun‑bleached dread and slow‑burn tension a clarity that really deepens its impact. Vinegar Syndrome’s restoration work lets the rough, intimate texture breathe without sanding down its rawness, and the disc feels like the ideal way to experience the film’s unsettling mood. It’s the kind of purchase that reminds you why boutique labels matter—an obscure title elevated into something striking and memorable."

Runs Red
"Redlands is one of those quiet, intense movies that sneaks up on you. The characters feel real, and the story keeps you guessing without any big flashy moments. It’s the kind of film that lingers in your mind after you’re done watching."
— Shawn M. (3/5)
Very ambivalent here
"I'm pretty torn here. Despite what I felt was an utterly unnecessary/gratuitous final scene/shot (nearly every scene is one shot; this movie is like 15 shots long) (or was it the penultimate one? Shit. The one w/the classical music, to stay spoiler-free), I overall enjoyed the movie, even though it seemed a bit of a shaggy dog story. But then the excess of that scene really made me reexamine how I felt about the rest of the movie. Did I enjoy that kind of early 90s Kevin Smith-ish uncomplicated shots with actors who don't quite feel ready for the big time yet? Or was nostalgia for those days coloring my thoughts? Was all the nudity/uncomfortable sex needed for the characters, or was it just gratuitous? It certainly made me uncomfortable at times, but that's the point, right? And that's art doing its job, right? Hm. I waver. End of the day, whether I liked it or not, I definitely don't want to watch it again, and maybe that's the most important thing."

Great release
"Not the best film in the world but definitely has its moments."
— Zachery M. (5/5)
Dark
"Overall decent movie for a blind buy. Tragic story on so many accounts. Slow paced, yet still engaging. I was not familiar with any of these actors. Nicole Fox was very good in her role."
— Ted A. (4/5)
Stark and distressing
"A unique film compromised mostly of long shots with a static camera, giving it a play like feel. The extras for the film are few, but there's over an hour worth of shorts which helps the value."
— Marcus P. (4/5)
More substantial than the pervathon
"More substantial than the pervathon I was expecting - actually quite grim. Good exploitation. Looks wonderful, and I bought the editoion with the booklet of extra photos, which was well worth it."
— Richard B. (4/5)
Uncompromising filmmaking
"Cold and uncomfortable, much like Haneke's movies can be. Best to do a bit of research before diving into this one."
— Fabrice B. (4/5)
Claustrophobic adult drama
"Claustrophobic adult drama looking into the lives of three residents of Redlands, California."
