This listing is for the standard edition Blu-ray. The limited edition slipcover (designed by Suspiria Vilchez) was limited to 500 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.

Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

Isolated from the outside world, fifteen-year-old Lara (Hannah Rae) lives in seclusion on a vast country estate with her father and strict governess Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine). Late one evening, a mysterious carriage crash brings a young girl into their home to recuperate. Lara immediately becomes enchanted by this strange visitor who arouses her curiosity and awakens her burgeoning desires.

This atmospheric coming-of-age tale is inspired by the 1872 Gothic vampire novella by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu.

"Great movie !!"

Carmilla

"I wasn’t into this release as I hoped I would. I found the movie beautiful to look at, but the story fell flat. But this release is great and I especially love the artwork for the slipcover."

Ant D. (5/5)

Slow and thoughtful

"Fairly slow paced but really atmospheric. Enjoyed it but one to immerse and take time with. Loved the booklet too even though I missed the slip."

RICHARD L. (5/5)

Great adaptation of one of the greats of English Lit

"Always been a huge fan of Le Fanu's original. This is one of the best adaptations. It is not exploitational or as horror focused as most and I think that is to its benefit. The love story seems more central and the challenges to the characters in a repressive time. It is a coming of age tale. Some well done effects too. Not familiar with most of the cast but great performances all around. (The only one I knew was Tobias Menzies from GoT, Outlander, and Rome. ) Highly recommended."

Ed K. (5/5)

So good

"If you love period pieces, horror, vampires, AND lesbians, this is for you."

Zachery M. (5/5)

I saw this film at

"I saw this film at a film festival and never thought it would ever get a Blu Ray release so I got a shitty bootleg years back but this release trumps it. Gorgeous cinematography and fantastic performances. Great release!"
