Before Dirk Diggler, there was John C. Holmes, the legendary adult actor who turned “Johnny Wadd” into a franchise and himself into a myth. Wadd: The Life & Times of John C. Holmes plunges into the heady 1970s and 1980s LA porn scene - the non-stop sex, the coke-fueled nights, the seedy characters, and the fatal orbit of club kingpin Eddie Nash that culminated in the Wonderland murders.

Narrated by Mike Sager, whose Rolling Stone investigation inspired the movies Boogie Nights and Wonderland, the documentary pairs rare film clips and never-before-aired crime-scene footage, with candid testimony from the people who knew him best. Featuring rare interviews with his wives and mistress, adult industry titans Larry Flynt and Ron Jeremy, and filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, Wadd is essential viewing for audiences captivated by the rise and fall of one of porn's most legendary figures.

Finally On Blu-Ray!

"Excited to finally have a copy of this documentary on Blu-Ray! A great documentary about John Holmes' life, but also about the porn industry in the 70s and 80s. Features good interviews with the likes of Bob Chinn and Al Goldstein, among others. Lot's of vintage film clips and photographs. Interviews with Holmes' first wife, girlfriend Dawn, and second wife. Enjoyed the commentary track and special feature. Maybe one day we can get a Johnny Wadd box set??"

Johnny Wadd!

"This is a 25+ year old documentary, so if you're hoping to learn anything new from this then you really won't. It's not a bad watch, but I suppose it lacks any real surprises and mostly focuses on the Wonderland murders. It's interesting hearing Ron Jeremy talk about heaven and hell and talking about morals, given what he's suspected of (I'm not sure that he has or will ever be found guilty). Decent enough documentary, but for me personally there was nothing new here."

Sam N. (3/5)

The real "Boogie Nights"

"Makes a great double-bill with Boogie Nights, which was inspired by Holmes. The documentary has some great interviews with a good selection of adult talent, many who unfortunately, are no longer with us. My only complaint is the picture quality of this release. It looks like VHS. Special Features are a major plus though."

Jamie M. (3/5)

Must have

"fascinating and grimy documentary that looks past the legend to show the chaos, ego, exploitation, and sadness behind one of adult film’s most infamous figures. It is sleazy by nature, but also surprisingly sad, turning a larger-than-life name into a messy portrait of fame, addiction, and self-destruction."

Shane P. (5/5)

Huge fan of VS documentary films

"This is just another one to add to the collection. This gives a excellent timeline for the life of John Holmes. Vinegar Syndrome never disappoints when it comes to documentaries. Keep releasing them."

Eric B. (5/5)

Great release for a great documentary

"A great documentary on the life of porn legend John C. Holmes. Glad this finally has a standalone release. It includes some nice special features and a booklet."

Kelly G. (5/5)

Great documentary

"A great doc, very informative and well made. Great packaging, too."

Jakob P. (5/5)

Good

"A really good documentary. I hope that we get more documentary about porn business and actors. I would love to see one of Jamie Gillis."

Mathias S. (4/5)

Excellent release for a rather dated documentary

"Though I feel like the subject matter could use a fresh pair of eyes and deeper dig into Holmes’ life and times, This is one of those discs where you can tell within the first few minutes that you’re watching the best version out there. The improvement is obvious, and the care behind the release is impossible to miss. Worth a purchase if you are curious about the man, the myth!"

Patrick F. (5/5)

Fascinating doc

"Had no idea why it was called Wadd. . . before Melusine and Vinegar Syndrome released this fascinating doc on a world famous adult film actor. Hopefully some Wadd films will soon be available on Bluray?"
