Jade - Possibly Freidkin's worst film but great packaging!
"It's a fine transfer, grainy but surprisingly great looking for a 30 year old film. I appreciate the presence of both the theatrical and director's cut, the latter not seen since its VHS days. I used to have the old blu-ray from Paramount, but it 'rotted' away and I had to toss it out. Thankfully, VS released this edition as a deluxe replacement. As for the movie itself, the plot is really a bit of a mess. Those expecting a full-on Joe Eszterhas sleaze-fest with plenty of T&A and blood will be disappointed. This is no Basic Instinct. It is notably police procedural, not surprising since it starred David Caruso (NYPD Blues and CSI: Miami), but he looked confused and wooden here. Friedkin is at his best directing car chase scenes, everything else fell apart. The logical plot loopholes, the unexplainable characters' motivations and actions, paperthin characterisation of the main characters. Linda Fiorentino tries her best to be a good femme fatale but she had seen better days in ''The Last Seduction''. Simply put, this is not a good film but at least it was well shot with great locations. I bumped down a star due to the quality of the film, not the actual packaging or transfer."

"The movie is a tale of betrayal, passion, and corruption. This may be the kind of B-movie featuring detectives, and a seductress. But "Jade" is more of a thriller with brains and lots of action. The car chase scene is truly great and is one of the most memorable moments of the movie. The S&M scene is great and may be one of the most memorable scenes Fiorentino has made."
