Welcome Vinegar Syndrome Labs (VSL) to the VS Sub-Label family! As with each of our sub-labels we are hoping to expand and defy expectations with the diversity of films we restore and release. As the name implies, VSL will serve as a kind of testing area for releasing genres and eras of film that one might not immediately expect to come from VS. The ultimate objective of VSL will be to see if these types of films will find an audience, and if so, pursue and release more of them…and even if not, still serve as a means of restoring more of the weird, rare, and unusual movies you might not expect from Vinegar Syndrome.

On an expedition deep into the Himalayas, Dr. Frank Parrish would rather keep things focused on his real mission—obtaining biological samples. But as he, his photographer, and their Sherpa troop press on into the harsh, frigid wilderness, he is forced to accept one truth he'd rather not. His lead guide not only insists that a Yeti really exists, but it's absconded with his wife, and now the Sherpa have overtaken Parrish's mission in order to rescue her.  Not only is the Yeti real, they manage to extract it from Asia and fly it to Los Angeles, all in the predictable name of science. That is, until it breaks free and threatens to cause havoc across the city!

THE SNOW CREATURE came at a critical point in the Atomic Age 1950s, as it represents a reworking of the older King Kong story into an entirely new piece of lore, exploiting the increasing interest in the Abominable Snowman. Directed by W. Lee Wilder (Killers from Space, and brother of director Billy Wilder), written by his son Myles Wilder (TV's The Dukes of Hazzard), and starring Paul Langton (TV's Peyton Place, The Incredible Shrinking Man), Teru Shimada (You Only Live Twice, King Rat), and William Phipps (The War of the Worlds, Messenger of Death), this historic B-thriller played both drive-ins and regional television well into the 1960s. The half man/half monsters at Vinegar Syndrome Labs are delighted to bring you this wooly trendsetter scanned and restored from its 35mm fine grain master.

Fun Schlock

"The Snow Creature is a classic low-budget monster movie that delivers exactly the kind of campy charm you’d expect from the era. W. Lee Wilder keeps things moving with a simple, straightforward story that never overstays its welcome. It’s far from polished, but its goofy creature effects and old-school vibe make it an enjoyable watch for fans of vintage sci-fi horror."

Damn for some forgotten 1950s

"Damn for some forgotten 1950s creature feature this one looks fantastic. I mean it's in that mode of a 1950s flick which you either love or hate but I love. . . Just an enjoyable afternoon Sunday flick. Nice extras too, love the context. Good purchase."

Beware The Snow Creature!

"The slipcover of this awesome cult throwback was really cool, as was the film itself! it was a very engaging watch! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

Brother Wilder goes Wild with Schlock

"The Snow Creature is a low-budget monster movie directed by W. Lee Wilder and is notable as one of the earliest films to feature the legendary Yeti on screen. The story follows an expedition in the Himalayas that captures a mysterious creature believed to be the Abominable Snowman, only for the beast to escape after being transported to the United States, unleashing chaos in the city. The Blu-ray released by Vinegar Syndrome under its Vinegar Syndrome Labs line presents the film in a new restoration sourced from archival elements. This edition gives fans of classic B-movie horror a chance to rediscover this early Yeti film with improved picture quality while preserving its charmingly rough, low-budget atmosphere."

The Snow Creature VSL bluray review

"The Snow Creature is a fun, early widescreen monster horror title that VSL brings back to life in a restored remaster. The plot is basically a1950's atomic age King Kong type story. I love early 50's horror and sci-fi. I am especially fond of the monster movies of that era. This is for sure in my wheelhouse. The widescreen restoration looks great! The disc has two interviews including one with Kim Newman, The artwork is reversible and the slipcover looks fantastic. Please give this one some love. It is a lot of fun."

Old monster flick

"The Snow Creature is a 1954 sci‑fi horror film about an American expedition that discovers a Yeti in the Himalayas, captures it, and brings it to Los Angeles—where it escapes and terrorizes the city. It blends adventure, creature‑feature suspense, and a touch of bureaucratic satire as officials debate whether the Yeti is an animal or a man."

Tarek E. (3/5)

Amazing release for small movie

"Still entertaining movie is what you expect, the mister only turning up in the last 10 minutes, great extras and well worth it"

Rohan J. (3/5)

Low budget monster movie . Dumb Fun

"Oh my the monster suit lol. It looks like a body suit with carpet glued on in certain sections. This all could have been avoided by shorting in shadow but nooooo! Very low budget and I like this stuff it may not be for you but one man’s trash and all that…"

Bruce K. (4/5)

A pretty middling 50's creature

"A pretty middling 50's creature feature. The monster costume is amusingly naff; the editing is occasionally laughable as well. To be fair though, the opening scene does a remarkable job of creating the illusion of being in the Himalayas. Nice job on that one! Anywho, not a great movie but a nice presentation. If you like 50's monster movies then give it a watch!"

Simon B. (3/5)

Ridiculous, fun film

"I’d not seen this before, but purchased it as I love these old so-bad-it’s-good type B&W films. Superb transfer and a lot of fun to watch, with a superbly designed slipcover. It’s a Region A release, so if outside the U. S. /Canada you need a multiregion player to be able to view."
