This listing is for the standard edition 2-disc 4k UHD/Blu-ray release. The limited edition slip box (designed by Edward Kinsella) was limited to 12,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the packaging and 40-page book.
Nazi-occupied Romania, 1941: In a small and gloomy village hidden deep in the mountains, German troops have arrived to lay siege. Although warned by the townspeople to stay out of a mysterious and ornately carved structure known only as “The Keep,” two arrogant soldiers ignore their orders and break into the obelisk, hoping to find stowed treasure, but instead unleash an ancient evil force which, with each new victim, grows stronger and more powerful. After suffering large casualties at its hands, Captain Klaus Woermann is informed that the only person who might be capable of defeating this monstrous and demonic entity is an elderly Jewish historian named Dr. Theodore Cuza, who is being held captive with his daughter in a concentration camp...

Reviews
The Keep, what could have been
"Michael Mann’s the Keep is a great example of a vision destroyed by studio. We are left with a truncated version of what could have been. What we have left is something truly special and Vinegar Syndromes release is outsanding in every way from extras to booklet. This LE version is an excellent way to experience the film the best way possible at the moment."

It's a KEEPer
"Longtime fan of Michael Mann films, this one is a bit of off a heads scratchee. The build up of the seeing was excellent, but the supernatural elements didn't add up for me in the end . I'm still glad to have this one in my collection and will give it another watch with the commentary. I missed out on the slipcover edition, but the standard also has a reversible cover art"

Excellent release of a near lost movie.
"I will be honest. The movie is not the best, but the entire time you watch it, you can tell there is real creativity and a vision there. Worthwhile as an oddity and fascinating because of what coykd have been"

Mood and visuals!
"This is kind of crazy. Mood and visuals all around. Don't listen to critics, this movie is a classic and deserves to be treated with respect! You can't appreciate that kind of gem comparing it to Mann's other features, it's just not fair. Like saying Dead-Alive is a worse movie from Peter Jackson compared to Lord of the Rings. Yeah, sure. But still, a masterpiece!"

The Keep
"The quality of the transfer looks amazing. I've been years waiting for this film to be released. VS did it again!"

The Keep
"The Keep is a fascinatingly flawed supernatural horror film that feels less like a conventional movie and more like a half-remembered nightmare drenched in fog, synthesizers, and cosmic dread. Directed by Michael Mann, the film follows Nazi soldiers who unknowingly unleash an ancient evil from a mysterious Romanian fortress, setting the stage for an eerie collision between war horror and dark fantasy. While its famously troubled production leaves the narrative fragmented and occasionally incoherent, the atmosphere is absolutely hypnotic, elevated by haunting visuals, stark lighting, and an iconic electronic score by Tangerine Dream. The movie’s ambition far exceeds its execution, but that imbalance is also what makes it so compelling; The Keep remains a cult object defined as much by its unrealized potential as by the strange, otherworldly experience it actually delivers."

I am keeping the keep
"What a wild picture. Loved the special features!"

This one’s a Keep-er (*groan*)
"When Tangerine Dream does that soundtrack, you always know you’re in for something special, whether the movie is a classic or not. Maybe not Michael Mann’s best film, but it is wildly entertaining and has been stunningly restored by VS."
