Gregg assumed it would be just another night out with friends, but things take an unexpected turn when he, his brother, and their girlfriends are kidnapped by the crazed Dr. Divine. The doctor, a twisted genius, has developed a radical method of life extension - transplanting the brains of his elderly and very wealthy patients into the bodies of the young. When Gregg escapes from the doctor's lair, but finds the local police unwilling to accept his story, he realizes that it'll be up to him to put an end to the doctor's diabolical 'treatments,' or run the risk of him and his friends losing their heads...literally.

Directed by career genre filmmaker, Joel Bender (Midnight Kiss, Gas Pump Girls), THE IMMORTALIZER revels in bloody surgical sequences, ubiquitous nudity, and a 'mad doctor' story which plays thematically as though the film were a 1930s poverty row horror feature updated for the late 80s exploitation market. Featuring colorful cinematography from four-time Emmy® nominee Alan Caso (TV's Six Feet Under) and a supporting performance from Melody Patterson (TV's F Troop), Vinegar Syndrome brings THE IMMORTALIZER to Blu-ray in a brand new 2K restoration.

Reviews

A great release

"This movie had a great 80s charm to it and the acting was pretty good too!"

Took a risk ,got a reward

"Bought this as a blind buy on eye appeal alone, v. s. always gives these titles the love they never got on release. The picture quality was top notch as per usual and the overall experience was just a treat. From the register all the way to the credits."

Zachary W. (5/5)

Sunny horror from director/editor Joel Bender!

"Sunny horror from director/editor Joel Bender! It reminded me of the movies Evils of the Night (1985) and Evil Town (1987). I really enjoyed the comic performance from actor Ron Ray as doctor Divine! Chris Crone was great as the lead! Steve Jamieson as an amoral doctor and the beautiful Rebekka Armstrong as June were also cast standouts! I hope VS can also release Joel Bender's Midnight Kiss (1993)!"

Pedro G. (5/5)

Campy 80s horror

"This one has the vibe of budget Re-Animator. It's fun. Has an interesting story. Decent performances."

Joseph I. (4/5)

Unmistakeably 80's.

"Although the plot may be a bit cliche, it manages to set the mood with some good locations and some good b-movie acting. The main thing I thought was a let down was some cringe audio dubbing - if you've ever watched the movie you know what I'm talking about. Entertaining movie, well-written horror slob. Bad enough that it is entertaining and fun. A movie that doesn't take itself to seriously it knows what it is, and perhaps that it why it works so well. As ususal a great scan from Vinegar and clear audio - I really liked the soundtrack in this one, so 80's. 3. 5/5"

Immortalized in HD!

"Did anyone ever ask for a low budget take on 'Reanimator'? No. . . Well your getting one anyway! I picked this up on a whim when it fell into the last VS sale and. . . welp. its a reanimator movie alright. . . lower budget, higher camp value. I dont really think theres anything inherently wrong with what this films trying to do. It just doesnt quite feel as original as i'd have liked it to. In either case, i'd say if it goes on sale again, its absolutely worth checking out. but I dont think i'd pay RRP for it."

Daniel D. (3/5)

The Old People Under the Knife

"The nosey neighbour lives in the house from “The People Under the Stairs”. This neighbourhood is all kinds of crazy. The protagonist was so stupid. This movie had an end game every 10 minutes, a way to save his friends and be the hero, but he failed over and over and over again. Idiot."

Daniel M. (3/5)

Fun late 80's sci-fi/horror

"Yet another movie that reminds me of the days of USA Up! All Night. I'd never heard of this movie until Vinegar Syndrome put it out, but I found it to be interesting and never boring."

Rene R. (5/5)

Wonky film!

"Wonky film that certainly won’t be for everyone, but I had some fun with it! Definitely worth a worth! This release looked awesome. VS do such a great job restoring these films!"

Dakota G. (5/5)

Body surgical horror

"Fun horror movie, it's a classic of the 90s videostores. Be aware of the beautiful cinematography, campy plot and quirky acting. Few bonus features but they are interesting."
