Few filmmakers working in British genre cinema had more memorable careers than Lindsay Shonteff. The Canadian ex-pat produced an incredibly diverse body of work during his few decades spent toiling on the fringes of England’s low-budget film community. Still, few of his films have developed a wider - and more deserved - fan base than his set of 60s horror-shockers made for legendary producer Richard Gordon (Horror Hospital): DEVIL DOLL and CURSE OF THE VOODOO. "I bought the Devil Doll due to an old DVD restoration I held in possession in heritance via my grandfather. This film is great, and the picture is phenominal! On the otherhand, I had watched Curse of the Voodoo prior before watching the newly restored Devil Doll, and its definitely a film of its era. It's interesting, I guess? I didn't particularly think it was a bad picture, but it definitely takes the point of view of a colonialists vision. Restoration is fantastic for both films. Devil Doll is the obvious winner of the two films."

"Great to see more British titles in the VS collection. Devil Doll has been languishing on DVD for 25 years, so it's great to finally get this weird little gem on high-definition! The restoration, I feel, is great, easily up to VS's previous black + white presentations, which is very, very good indeed! Bonus points for including Shonteff's Curse of the Voodoo! Highly recommended!"

"This is a superb presentation of two low budget early 1960s British horrors, both fully deserving of the excellent commentary tracks each gets. The archival Weaver / Gordon commentary is also on there and VS gets extra points for porting that over from the old DVD release. Good to see DEVIL DOLL has the nude scenes included in the integral cut with the clothed alternatives as extras. Both transfers are very good and for fans of the 'Merton Park' level of British moviemaking this is an essential purchase"
