Underrated Argento with a killer restoration
"Trauma doesn’t get talked about as much as Argento’s ’70s and ’80s classics, but I’ve always liked how strange and melancholy this one feels. Asia Argento gives the movie a fragile center, Christopher Rydell works well opposite her, and the Headhunter murders give it enough nasty giallo energy to keep things moving. I also like the colder American setting. It gives the movie a different vibe from Argento’s Italian work, but you still get the stylized murders, weird psychology, and that feeling that something is just slightly off the entire time. Vinegar Syndrome did a great job with the release too. The restoration looks fantastic, the audio is strong, and the extras give the movie a lot more context. The limited Haunt Love slipcover is embossed and looks great in person too. Maybe not peak Argento, but definitely one I think deserves more love. Great movie, great release, easy 5/5 for me. 😁"

"Wicked twist waiting in this 90s Giallo by the Italian Master Dario Argento. So excited that Vinegar Syndrome took the time and care to reissue this forgotten classic. I will always rave about the scanning from the original 35 mm interpositive that Vinegar Syndrome does. This is so incredible! And the bonus features here are crazy! Alexandra Hellar Nicholas shows up for a commentary track! Interviews with everyone involved💥 Including Argento, Pino Donaggio and Tom Savini. Vinegar Syndrome continues to be the Criterion of forgotten or seemingly lost films that should be in the conversation and now, thankfully, are!"

Downhill Slope of Argento Begins
"In all honesty, this wasn't a bad Argento movie. It does hit a slog in the middle and the male lead is terribly bland. However, Piper Laurie is fantastic, even when hamming it up. Asia Argento is still coming into her own as an actress and gets exploited by her father in THAT scene. She was 16 at the time, which is the age of her character's, and she gets in a romantic relationship with the 20-plus lead male character. And no one questions this as wrong? The 90s were a crazy time. Watching this with post-Weinstein lenses is certainly interesting. The slipcover is okay, nothing special, much like the movie. BUT it's much better than many of Argento's entries to come."
