Dark folk horror with a nasty little edge 😁
"Birthrite really worked for me because it has that low-budget occult-horror vibe where the atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting. The isolated setting, family secrets, strange rituals, and constant feeling that something is wrong give the movie a creepy slow-burn quality that kept me into it. I also like that it doesn’t feel overly polished. There’s a roughness to the performances and filmmaking that actually fits the story and gives it that regional-horror personality I’m always a sucker for. Once the supernatural side starts taking over, the movie gets considerably nastier and more interesting. The limited edition presentation is a big part of the appeal too. The black-and-red slipcover is simple but striking, and that antler imagery gives it exactly the right occult/folk-horror look on the shelf. Creepy, strange, and much more memorable than I expected. Easy 5/5 for me. 😁"
