The wonderful seventies
"The Telephone Book is a wild one. Possibly contains one of the best monologs ever put to film. Absolutely recommended for fans of the eccentric. Great release all around."
This is the listing for the standard edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo. The limited edition embossed slipcover (designed by Derek Gabryszak) was limited to 2,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.
A major, though forgotten, work from New York's underground film scene of the late 60s and early 70s. Nelson Lyon's, The Telephone Book, tells the story of Alice, a sex-obsessed hippie who falls in love with the world's greatest obscene phone caller and embarks on a quest to find him. Her journey introduces her to an avant-garde stag filmmaker, a manipulative psychiatrist, a lesbian housewife, and more. Photographed in high-contrast black-and-white, and punctuated with a remarkable, surreal color animated sequence, The Telephone Book is one of the greatest cult films you've probably never heard of.

"Never heard about it but I quite liked it."
"looks great"
"Where has this movie been all my life???"
"This is a wild movie. There's not much to it in terms of plot but it follows a young woman as she tries to find an obscene caller, and the fun and weird characters and detours along the way. It climaxes (wink) with an insane sequence of editing and animation that you just have to see for yourself. The movie also contains one of my favorite character introduction lines ever said from our obscene caller. There are special feature including a commentary by the director which has interesting stories, including how he was a graphic designer and created the cover for the film featured on the standard case."
"Heard about this release in the excellent Against the Grain documentary included in the 10 film set celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of Vinegar Syndrome. Found a copy of the long OOP blu-ray at Vinegar Syndromes Denver store."
"A comedy that can be very hit-and-miss, but has a lot of interesting moments and a random assortment of really strange second-string oddball characters. It’s very experimental in form which can be a bit tiring after a while. The lead actress resembles a young Goldie Hawn and spends a great portion of the film in various states of undress which is always nice. The Vinegar Syndrome blu-ray’s restoration looks great."
"Bought it on a whim, lent it to someone who forgot to give it back so I bought it again. Experimental sex comedy that in the last reel changes from B/W to color and animation. Great restoration, better than it probably deserves but sure there´s people in it so thankfully VS cared a lot."
"This is a lovely transfer of a fun romp through 60s kink. The care that was taken in this release is obvious and it is a must have for fans of the genre."
"Excellent movie"
