The Science Department at a Florida university has been working on a wonder drug for brain injuries but has accidentally created something else: a rage virus capable of turning those infected into mindless killers, complete with superhuman strength. Meanwhile, two student journalists, Chad and Frank, are on the hunt for a story that will land them national attention. After stumbling upon the biology lab responsible for conducting the experiments, and its large stock of test animals, the reporters believe they've landed on a potentially topical subject: inhumane animal testing. Deciding to break in at night to get some exclusive photos, Frank is attacked by a baboon which, unbeknownst to him, has been infected with the virus. Now, with a deadly substance flowing through his body, Frank slowly begins to transform into a bloodthirsty monster in the shell of a man, and it's not long before anyone he encounters starts getting ripped to shreds. But even worse, the virus proves contagious...
Made during the peak of Italy’s production intersection with U.S. horror cinema, Vittorio Rambaldi’s PRIMAL RAGE embodies a distinctly American influenced approach to 80s monster horror while cramming in an array of highly Italian gore set pieces, courtesy of legendary special effects creator and Academy Award winner, Carlo Rambaldi (A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). Starring Patrick Lowe (Slumber Party Massacre II), future TV personality, Cheryl Arutt, and genre film legend, Bo Svenson (Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker), Vinegar Syndrome is pleased to bring this unforgettable horror freakout to UHD, newly and exclusively restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative and featuring an array of freshly shot interviews to sink your teeth into.

Primal Rage, Primal Fun!
"Primal Rage isn’t a great movie, but it’s exactly what you want from an entertaining B-horror movie. It’s got that scrappy late-’80s energy, a fun premise, and enough wild moments to keep things engaging even when it gets a little rough around the edges. Vinegar Syndrome’s release really helps it shine, great packaging and restoration. It’s the kind of movie you throw on for a good time rather than perfection, and on those terms, it delivers."

A horrific surprise!!!
"Primal Rage was a lot of fun. As we can see in most of the reviews, it looks like a 28 Days Later film being made in the 80s. The gore is pretty impressive and everything is over the top, as it should be. And the extras? There are a bunch and all of them are fine as hell!!!"

Wild and gory rage virus movie.
"A really fun college set horror movie with a lot of rage virus zombies. Pretty good gore too. Beautiful restoration on this."
— Damon H. (4/5)
pretty good
"Primal Rage is an above average 80's horror film. Not super above average, but thoroughly enjoyable. I'd watch it again."

A guilty pleasure. Perfect sound and picture. A+++
"I've discovered this film back in the video store days and it's been a guilty pleasure ever since. They don'y make movies like this anymore. The ambiance of the 80s italian horror fims made for the international market is unique. Plus, I love the effects by Carlo Rambaldi. Our friends at Vinegar Syndrome have made an incredible job with this 4K edition, including a feature-length documentary. Perfect sound and picture. A+++"

Italian monkey-man business in the late '80s
"Everytime I hear the words Primal Rage, I have to think about the unique arcade game from the '90s but first there was this Italian-made-in-the-US film that I always thought was made by FilmiRage (but it isn't). Basically a monster/slasher film with some impressive gore (what with the SFX master of E. T. behind the wheel!) and featuring some star name with Bo Svensson. At first I had the Code Red DVD but this polishes up everything to an insane degree. The biggest extra is a cool documentary that is almost as long as the film itself."

Rage!
"Great scalp removal scene. Who doesn't love a good "rage virus" movie. While it might not be an original premise its still a fun watch."

Primal Rage!
"“Primal Rage” could have easily been a source of inspiration for “28 Days Later”. A group of lab Baboons are infected with an extremely dangerous and contagious “Rage Virus” that could turn people into deranged psychopaths. Somebody breaks into the lab and guess what happens next… Co-Written by Umberto Lenzi, this Italian production is a blast! Great make up FX, gore and action make this one a great choice for a movie night party. The presentation for this 4K release looks and sounds beautifully! Highly recommended"

Monkey madness with a Halloween Dance Party!!!
"Synopsis: Ace journalism student Sam Nash just finishes being a knight in shining armor for babe student Lauren when he decides to get a big scoop on campus. He thinks that scientist Dr. Ethridge is up to something and wants to get to the bottom of what he's testing. The somewhat noble doctor is injecting monkeys with some sort of serum that is supposed to help cure all cognitive diseases. Sam doesn't have the balls to break in to get the story but his gonzo journalism friend Duffy sure does. While taking pictures an infected monkey bites him on the arm and very shortly after that Duffy experiences bouts of PRIMAL RAGE and body pulsations that cause veins to burst. Infected with some sort of monkey virus he bites one of Lauren's friends on the neck who in turn becomes infected and it's up to Nash and Lauren to stop them before the entire campus becomes violent monsters. Review: If there was a little more Primal Rage action throughout and it didn't seem like nudity was cut out this may be a yearly Halloween rewatch classic for me. This has a lot of bonkersness in it from the start, in which we see a monkey get demolished by a police cruiser, to the end, where we see a Halloween dance party scene with the three goon students who dressed up in their skeleton costumes causing a bunch of mayhem. The costumes at the aforementioned party are some of the most creative I have seen in a horror movie. Carnage Count 3/5 Sleaze Score 1/5"
