In the near future, video games have evolved to a point where they are able to biologically interact with players through the use of an electronic umbilical cord. Allegra Geller has created eXistenZ, a highly anticipated virtual reality game which has come under fire for its potential ability to effectively warp players' perceptions of reality. When an anti-game zealot attempts to murder Allegra during a demo, she narrowly escapes with the help of her publicist, Ted Pikul. However, Allegra discovers that the only master copy of the game might have been damaged during the attack and convinces Ted to test it with her. After Ted reluctantly agrees, the pair enter the virtual world of eXistenZ, but it’s not long before they start becoming uncertain as to where the violent gameplay ends and reality begins...
Director David Cronenberg’s (Videodrome, Crash) masterpiece of sci-fi horror for the video game age, eXistenZ stars two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Oscar® nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh (Single White Female), and four-time Oscar® nominee Willem Dafoe (Platoon). Action-packed from beginning to end, and featuring memorable creature effects designed by Stephan Dupuis (Scanners), loaded with a consummate selection of new and archival extras, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the 4K UHD debut of this slime-filled look at a virtual future which might become reality sooner than we'd like to think.

Fascinating
"eXistenZ immediately made me think of The Matrix. Although both films are fantastic, in the year 2026, eXistenZ is the better and more realistic film in terms of story. Both the visuals and the sound are incredibly good. A magnificent movie!"

You never forget your first Cronenberg
"A 4K for my favourite Cronenberg film and Jennifer Jason Leigh performance is quite something. Not just for the unexpected picture upgrade, but an edition beyond definitive, being even more stacked with special features than the already impressive 101 Films Blu-ray in the UK. So happy to get the limited packaging, which is one of the very fastest VS sell-outs in memory for me."
— Timothy E. (5/5)
A must own for body horror fans
"Spun eXistenZ on 4K UHD and this release is fantastic. The film has a very natural, cinematic look with fine grain and great detail. HDR adds depth without overdoing it, and the audio is clean and immersive. The extras are strong too, especially if you love Cronenberg deep dives. A must own for sci-fi and body horror fans."

Thank you for taking care of this one
"What an incredible treatment for such an amazing Cronenberg film that never gets enough love. An incredible quality transfer, and an upgrade overall including special features. This is the one to get. If you love Videodrome or Naked Lunch you’ll particularly love this. A Cronenberg golden era classic."
— Thomas N. (5/5)
Wait. . . are we still in the review?
"Cronenberg doing his thing! What is real? What is fiction? What is simulation? What is a game? Made at a time where video games had not quite fully permeated to mainstream status, Cronenberg could make up his own rules on just what the games even are. It's well crafted, good, weird, messy fun!"
— Lonney M. (4/5)
One of Vinegar Syndrome's best releases
"Not only is eXistenZ a great David Cronenberg movie, this is one of VS's best releases due to the quality of the transfer and beautiful packaging."
— David A. (5/5)
Underrated Cronenberg
"Such a great relic of the end of the 90s, looking into the 2000s body horror + technology movie. 4 commentary tracks too!"
— John F. (5/5)
