After a drug deal gone wrong, a group of punks attempt to flee a local amusement park by taking a mysterious old magician named Chandu (Frank Finlay; Lifeforce) and his beautiful daughter hostage. While trying to evade the police, the punks force Chandu to take them to his secluded mansion where they plan to seek refuge for the night and wait for the heat to die down. Unbeknownst to them, Chandu's obsession with the black arts and the occult has summoned an evil that not even he can control. As the house itself begins to terrorize and kill the trespassers, the survivors desperately attempt to uncover the horrifying secret to the mansion’s magical spells, along with Chandu’s own dark past...

One of the last films directed by Spain’s notorious Juan Piquer Simón (Slugs), CTHULHU MANSION is a lavish and expectedly grotesque H.P. Lovecraft inspired chiller that, despite its early 90s production date, is firmly rooted in the aesthetics, gore, and creature effect work of prime 80s Euro horror. Never before on disc in the U.S., Vinegar Syndrome proudly presents this gothic gem in a new 2K restoration of archival 35mm film elements.

Juan Piquer Simon meets Lovecraft

""So glad I picked this up. The picture quality is surprisingly sharp for a 90s B-movie, and the colors look great. The best part is the massive documentary on Juan Piquer Simón—totally worth it just for that. A solid, fun release for any cult horror collector. ""

Chandu's Revenge

"Synopsis: A group of punks that kill a drug dealer at a carnival and steal his stash kidnap elderly magician Chandu and his daughter so they can lay low at his mansion. Little do they know that Chandu has dabbled in the dark arts and has a connection to an evil entity that is making its presence known in CTHULHU MANSION. Review: Zero likable characters and prolonged periods of nothing happening make this a pretty tough sell. Juan Piquer Simón made the vastly superior Slugs and Pieces but seemed to be slumming it here with this slimy home invasion flick with a twist. I certainly would have liked to see more ghouls and less awful acting. Carnage Count 2/5 Sleaze Score 1/5"

Spanish Lovecraftian Curiosity

"Lovecraft fans might get a kick out of this film, which features a good sense of atmosphere and some nice effects work (as well as an unexpected turn from British actor Frank Finlay). It's nothing special, but quite entertaining. The transfer looks terrific, and the artwork is splendid. Recommended."

I always had a soft

"I always had a soft spot for Juan Piquer Simon and while this comes late in the Eurotrash horror day, it's still a lot of fun. The effects are charming and it doesn't outstay its welcome."

Good Lovecraft-inspired film with great

"Good Lovecraft-inspired film with great practical effects. From the director who brought us Slugs and Pieces!"

Logan G. (5/5)

Lovecraft you say?

"Undisputed auteur of trash cinema, Juan Piquer Simón strikes again with another wonderfully illogical piece of demented nonsense. Much like the slate of other Spanish horrors released by VS around the same time (i. e Cemetery of Terror, Don't Panic, Grave robbers, etc) this one is a great party flick and made even better when viewed in company of a few mild altering munchies."
