Knows exactly what it is. Or does it?
"As a slasher enthusiast, there's so much to like about Brute 1976. The production values are expensive looking despite the budget and the acting better than average. The extras let us in on the joy the filmmakers had making it. I only wish the feature was as fun to watch. It really comes down to tone. Is it a campy retro-pastiche? Is it a self-aware meta-slasher? Is it a dark comedy/social satire? There are a lot of good ideas but none of them come together in a compelling way. But it looks great, like a less-tryhard Rob Zombie joint and it's forward thinking enough to feature a Black final girl as well as two villains. The slip is wonderfully nasty (and down to 87 copies if you're thinking of grabbing one). A fun one to watch with friends but I'm not sure how well it might hold up with repeated viewings."
