From arthouse to Canuxploitation, Canadian International Pictures (CIP) is devoted to resurrecting vital, distinctive, and overlooked triumphs of Canadian cinema. This label is focused on the country’s original cinematic boom years – spanning the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s – occasionally venturing past that period (and the country’s borders) to highlight the films of Canada’s most inspired actors and filmmakers. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing CIP's brand new line of home video releases!

25th anniversary special edition

Often discussed, but rarely understood, collectors are driven by an obsessiveness that mainstream society struggles to understand. Through conversations with dozens of devoted record collectors, Vinyl offers an unblinking and amusing look at this phenomenon, exploring the personal struggles that lead to collecting, the negative ways it impacts some, and the essential joy it brings to others, helping them achieve a sense of meaning, purpose, and comfort.

The first feature-length documentary from one-of-a-kind filmmaker Alan Zweig, Vinyl introduced his trademark idiosyncrasies and confessional approach fully formed. Resisting traditional notions of likability, he reveals as much about himself as he does about his subjects, which include a mix of everyday vinyl devotees alongside cultural figures like Bruce LaBruce, Guy Maddin, Don McKellar, and Harvey Pekar. But even as Zweig reckons with the debilitating side of collecting, he reveals his own deep commitment to the subject with an honesty that will resonate with collectors and non-collectors alike.

Another great release from Canadian

"Another great release from Canadian International Pictures. I mean what a treatment of an obscure Canadian documentary. So many extras and I mean the documentary is fantastic by itself. Great purchase :)"

Bryan K. (5/5)

Spun

"Vinyl is a deeply personal and often painfully honest look at obsession, loneliness, and the world of record collecting. Alan Zweig turns the camera on himself and others in a way that feels raw, awkward, and surprisingly revealing. It’s not always easy to watch, but its vulnerability and authenticity make it quietly powerful and memorable."

Shawn M. (4/5)

Disjointed

"This documentary is pretty strange and I guess looks more at the psychology of collecting something, rather than specific vinyl rarities. There are a couple of collectors who keep a copy of pretty much every record they find, regardless of value or actual interest in the record itself. As someone who has quite a few records, I can't imagine doing such a thing myself and I'm constantly battling with what to keep (another subject which comes up, as it happens). I guess it's kind of interesting, but not something I'd watch on multiple occasions. Recommended to people interested in the psychology of hoarding, as well as vinyl itself."

Sam N. (3/5)

Cold Journey/Vinyl BluRay Order

"Nice that you stock the CIP titles. I have slowly built a nice, small collection of them, and I really love the work they do. As always, the order arrived quickly, and the BluRays were pristine. Consistently pleased with your service. Keep on rockin' Paul Anderson"

Paul A. (5/5)

A must for all self-loathing collectors

"Was very excited to see this long lost gem from 20ish years ago get this spectacular deluxe treatment, full of numerous audio commentaries and bonus features. If you have even a passing interest in record or physical media collecting, this will likely hit pretty close to home, and the cast of characters assembled here is pretty amazing."

Todd H. (5/5)

Way Beyond Vinyl

"This doc goes so far beyond vinyl collecting it’s insane. If you buy any physical media at all (and you do), this will hit hard af."

Brock T. (5/5)

Heads up, fellow collectors.

"I first saw this over 20 years ago, before my own vinyl collecting really kicked off, and it left a lasting impression. Great to finally revisit it in such a rich edition, and of course - add it to my shelf."

Matthew K. (5/5)

The best doc on record collecting

"Essential documentary on the obsession of collecting. This one is really great. Rare that I see something so relatable. Great release from Candian International Pictures."

Drake D. (5/5)

A very complete release, with

"A very complete release, with a poster and even an alternate version of the movie. So glad this Canadian documentary is getting the recognition it deserves."

Alexis R. (4/5)

New favorite documentary

"One of my current favorite documentaries! Absolutely adored it and how introspective it gets, though those that want a more straightforward and conventional doc will be happy for the alternative cut."
