This listing is for the standard edition Blu-ray. The limited edition slipcover (designed by Poochamin) was limited to 2,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.

Founded in 2002 as one of the first-ever subscription film services with its DVD-of-the-Month Film Club, Film Movement is now a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City. In 2015, Film Movement launched the reissue label Film Movement Classics featuring new restorations released theatrically as well as on home video, with an emphasis on films by auteur directors such as Eric Rohmer, Peter Greenaway and Takeshi Kitano.

In his explosive directorial debut Japanese renaissance man-cum-comedian-extraordinaire Takeshi "Beat" Kitano plays vicious rogue homicide Detective Azuma who takes on a sadistic crime syndicate only to discover widespread internal corruption in the police force. Facing criminal charges for his unorthodox "Dirty Harry" type methods, Azuma finds himself caught in a web of betrayal and intrigue that sends him on a bloody trail of vengeance. But when his sister is kidnapped by a sadistic drug lord, Azuma’s tactics escalate towards an apocalyptic climax.

In enfant terrible Takeshi Kitano’s explosive second feature film, Masaki (Yûrei Yanagi) is an unassuming gas station attendant and amateur baseball player for underdog team The Eagles. After he enrages a local yakuza, setting off a feud between the gangsters and his coach, Masaki heads to Okinawa on a haphazard quest for guns with his friend Kazuo (Dancan). There they are befriended by the uber-eccentric yakuza boss Uehara (played by Kitano), who initiates them into the strange and brutal world of organized crime.

    A Japanese Dirty Harry?

"I’ve only watched Violent Cop so far but it’s a bizarre movie. As I think about the film more and more, I can imagine it sticking with me. Haunting me. The vibe is so peculiar that I can’t point to another film that resembles it. And the character's insistent drive of immorality in the face of injustice is compelling to watch."

    Violent Cop rocks

"Wow, I blind bought these 2 flicks and Violent Cop blew me and my mates away! Absolutely riveting and gritty, and unlike anything I've seen - it's Dirty Harry but different!. Will watch Boiling Point next week but for Violent Cop alone this is worth a buy! Great PQ as well. Would have loved a few more extras!"

    Michael L. (5/5)

Valentine's day just passed and no machine gun bouquet again :(

"Boiling Point has some kinda weird spontaneous hump seshes. . . you don't wanna miss. Peoples reactions or lack there of to gunfire is hilariously deadpan. The ending certainly reaches its boiling point, loved that ending. In Violent Cop "Everyones gone crazy" indeed I concur, yuuuup. Solid cop on edge movie early on then that ending is just bonkers cutthroat as hell especially what happens to his sister. Chick on boardwalk had a bad night for too for sure. Fantastic!"

    Derek T. (5/5)

    Classic kitano

"Great two films from Kitano, love the artwork on the slipcover but unfortunately was not able to get it, wish i got it earlier!"

    Feud, Fire, Danger and Yakuza

"First, The limited edition slipcover by (Poochamin) is worth the price one pays for these two early films by Japanese comedian, actor, and filmmaker ( Takeshi Kitano - 北野 武 ). Part neo-noir action thriller, part crime drama & part Japanese "Dirty Harry" , there is enough action and fire in both movies to keep the viewer interested. The restoration and audio / picture quality of both movies are Excellent. Not much of Extras in this release, but there is a great Booklet included."

    Dennis B. (5/5)

    Two bonafide bangers

"Absolutely loved both of these movies. Takeshi Kitano really was just a master from his first film. Phenomenal release, highly recommended"

    Jon B. (5/5)

    I’ve been wanting to see

"I’ve been wanting to see this Japanese crime flicks for some time now, so to get them together with a gorgeous looking slipcover was a no brainer. Definitely better artwork than the previous single release which were awful! The disc isn’t stacked with extras, but that’s there is decent, but the real bonus is the two films for the price of on. Solid release!"
