During a casual run in the forest, student athlete Renee (The Dead Zone’s Roberta Weiss) is unceremoniously interrupted by deranged mountain man Vern (Rolling Vengeance’s Lawrence King-Phillips), who ties a rope around her neck, drags her through the woods, and brings her to an isolated cabin. As helicopters search the area, Vern torments Renee with a series of terrifying and humiliating violations, but a glimmer of hope appears when his father Joe (Elves star Dan Haggerty) arrives on the scene and pledges to set her free. But Vern is incensed by this attack on his “property,” and he will stop at nothing to maintain his oppressive grip on Renee.

Written and directed by Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker co-writer Boon Collins and loosely inspired by a shocking true story, this USA Up All Night favorite takes a harrowing journey from psychosexual horror to high stakes adventure yarn with the introduction of Grizzly Adams himself Dan Haggerty. Intensely outré from beginning to end, this little-seen mindbender – shot by Robert McLachlan (Final Destination) and scored by Michel Rubini (Manhunter) – needs to be seen to be believed.

"First seeing the cover I thought it stars Robert Pattinson. Apparently it's an actor called Lawrence King-Phillips though and this is of course a mid 80s Canadian thriler movie. I loved the scenery and beautiful nature photography in this. That's the best part about it. For a thriller it is not very suspsenful though and it's got a certain TV movie feel to it, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The legendary Mr. Beard Dan Haggerty stars as one of the few charcters in this film and gives a great performance. So do the others actors. The special features are outstanding and worth the price of admission alone. First of all there is an unmasked 4:3 version of the movie, which lets you see a lot more detail. There's a critic commentary with Justin Kerswell (The Hysteria Continues podcast) and TV movie expert Amanda Reyes. Followed by two insightful interviews with director Boon Collins. The highlight is the video essay by Stephen Broomer about the true story this movie is based on. A nice sized booklet is included as well. Love the artwork on the slip! There is no mention who did it however?!"

Not as sleazy as you might expect, but still has a nice surprise waiting for viewers

"It's the 1980s, a movie about a woman kidnapped by a madman might make you think that certain things might happen to the woman in the film. But this Canadian picture subverts your expectations in several ways, and the story is actually all the better for it. Dan Haggerty does play a tough mountain man, but his character actually has a small arc and a surprise relation to the main story that I didn't expect, and the movie was a richer experience for it. Great scenery, though some of it stock footage. Come for the 1980's woman in peril and stay for a complex psychological drama."

A breakneck survival thriller that's never looked better

"CIP is rapidly becoming one of my favorite sub-labels. I've always been a casual fan of Canuxploitation but was mostly unfamiliar with the indie film scene it sprang from. Abducted might be my favorite of this favorite. This is a survivor thriller that doesn't play around, despite the comforting presence of Grizzly Adams. The slip design is immaculate, the transfer is beautiful, and the extras are voluminous. Recommended."
