The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) represents the world's largest theatrical catalog of exploitation cinema. Their home video line presents a diverse selection of movies, ranging from new preservations of classics from the vast library of Something Weird to the wildest in shot-on-video (SOV) titles. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

In 1989, filmmaker Barry J. Gillis and friends renewed the world’s faith in Canada with the horror brainbomb known as THINGS. But that was only the beginning. WICKED WORLD is not only Gillis’ 1991 follow-up to THINGS—it’s also a new form of genre anarchy. Grant Ekland (Gillis) is a cop who is haunted by the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a psychotic slasher named Harold. When Harold is released from an asylum, there’s only one option for Ekland: revenge! Filled with metal riffage, gnarly ultra-violence, and experimental techniques, WICKED WORLD feels like what would happen if Salvador Dali injected acid directly into his brain while staring at a Cannibal Corpse LP cover. This is a highly personal treatise on the toxicity of society from one of the most singular filmmakers in trash-horror history.

Pretty Brutal

"If you go in with the right mindset, you can enjoy this one the way one often enjoys SOV releases. Even though this wasn't technically shot on video, it was edited on video, so the end result is that it might as well be. Some funny lines, and you have the typical assortment of attractive women who just wanted to be in a movie and often don't appear again elsewhere. My favorite was the blonde hitchhiker the killer mistook for a hooker. Looking fine in her tight black mini-dress, she displayed an impressive ability to run in high heels on pavement. If you're wondering which version to watch, I'd say the original cut looks slightly better at least. The directors cut has some weird processing on it that I think was a net negative."

"When I had heard the director of Things had made a slasher/revenge flick as it follow up I was excited to check it out, and although it doesn’t hit the same highs, it’s still very entertaining for those that no what they’re getting into. Disc also includes a feature length doc. which is always a plus and some fittingly graphic artwork."

"This is one of those movies that's hard to put int words. It looks and sounds amazing. Just complete madness. I had seen it before but it was a low quality transfer. This version is absolutely worth checking out. Just a crazy flick all around."

"“Let’s get down to business hooker” “What do you think I’m some kind of hooker or something?” Amazing tan lines in this one. Even though the guitar riffs drown out several lyrics (undecipherable even by subtitles) Welcome to the Red Zone is an all time Toronto drive by anthem."
