A GUN FOR JENNIFER is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT; Aurora, CO and Toronto, ON!
Unique to this line, each hand numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.
These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This slipcase edition (designed by Corinne Halbert) is strictly limited to 5,000 units and may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

A young woman from Ohio fleeing an abusive marriage has just arrived in New York when she’s attacked and nearly raped by a pair of thugs. At the last second, she’s rescued by a gang of armed women who leap from a van, shooting one of the attackers dead and compelling the would-be victim to pull the trigger on the other. With nowhere else to turn, the young woman - who calls herself Jennifer - is quickly inducted into the gang, which has been targeting male sex offenders, leaving a trail of castrated cadavers across the city. As the cops start to realize that they have a vigilante squad on their hands, and the gang decides to set its sights on higher-profile targets, Jennifer must decide which side of the law she wants to end up on.
Shot almost entirely on location in Manhattan in the mid-90s, providing a snapshot of a gritty and grimy New York long-since disappeared, A GUN FOR JENNIFER - co-written, produced by and starring Deborah Twiss and co-written/directed by Todd Morris - is a brutal and bloody female revenge anthem in the tradition of Ms. 45 and I Spit on Your Grave, culminating in a balls-to-the-wall shootout to rival anything seen in The Wild Bunch. A sensation at the 1997 Fantasia Film Festival but criminally underseen in the intervening years, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to unearth A GUN FOR JENNIFER on Blu-ray in a brand new 2K restoration from the original 16mm negative, accompanied by a revelatory new documentary telling the fascinating story of this gonzo production.

"A surprisingly good film, provided you can look past a few underwhelming performances and semi-predictable storyline. Atrocious artwork but overall a good film."
"This is a fine example of late 90's grindhouse style, low budget, N. Y. C. , filmmaking. The transfer is pretty good, the picture and audio are excellent, considering the elements. Strong recommendation for those interested in films like I Spit On Your Grave, Ms . 45, N. Y. C. 70's-80's low budget films which capture the grime of the pre-gentrified city. The double sided poster is pretty sweet, and the slipcase is pretty sick, too."
"So glad that VS put this out and it would also have perfectly fitted into their mainline, instead of the VSA sub-label. Although released in 1997, this exploitation movie feels very much like an early 80s revenge flick, thanks to its grainy shot on 16mm look. If you like movies like "Last House on the Left" or "I spit on your Grave" and also love the old dirty NYC, you will enjoy this I think. I had seen this film before on a decent German DVD release, but this new transfer from the OCN blows it out of the water by a mile. The extras are also perfect in my opinion. There are some boutique releases that lack extras and some are so stuffed with shit, you can hardly watch/listen to all of it. This is the perfect amount: a 50 minute doc, a director's commentary, the trailer and a nice sized booklet. All newly produced for this release. Now, the only downside to this release is the artwork. I think it's alright, but I think this would have sold much better if it had a more badass slipcover artwork."
"Scuzzy, low-budget, feminist revenge movie. Wasn't expecting much from this one, but between the 16mm cinematography, its tough no-nonsense attitude and raw punk-rock energy, it won me over big time. Really enjoyed the 50-minute making-of documentary on the disc too."
"The new restoration preserves this movies raw, low-budget, and gritty atmosphere. It is a brutal exploitation thriller following a group of women who take violent revenge against attackers like ms 45 and ISOYG. The features have a new, revealing documentary, In the Belly of the Beast, which chronicles the film's tumultuous backstory."
"I don't know if a movie has made me feel worse recently than this one and I say that as a compliment. Just an all around feel bad film."
"A Gun for Jennifer is so underrated. I've always loved movies that are shot in gritty 16mm and take place in New York (there's a lot of movies like this, for some reason), and this film is certainly one of them. There is such good chemistry in the cast, even if they realistically shouldn't fit with one another. It creates for a fun ensemble, which is contrasted with their dark job of killing rapists. I don't want to ramble too much, but please pick this up if a movie about a vigilante of women killing rapists in power sound good to you."
"gritty, mid-90s rape-and-revenge thriller. A low budget Ms. 45 if you will and I will"
"Very cool low budget New York based revenge movie. A gang of women take to the streets and enact street justice. The making of documentary extra is also excellent."
