In 1930s Florida, mobster Nicky Rocco is gunned down by his own gang in front of his mistress, Ruby Claire, who turns out to be carrying his child. Almost two decades later, Ruby - once a songstress with dreams of stardom - is living out a quiet existence with her daughter Leslie, now a mute 16-year-old, in a large house adjoining a drive-in, which she runs alongside Nicky's old gang members. When, one by one, the former mobsters start winding up dead in various bizarre and gruesome ways, a parapsychologist, Dr. Paul Keller, arrives on the scene to investigate. Upon witnessing a series of unsettling supernatural occurrences, he begins to suspect that Nicky is meting out revenge from beyond the grave against those who betrayed him while using his own teenage daughter as the conduit…
A commercial high point in the career of prolific director - and devout genre fan - Curtis Harrington (Night Tide, The Killing Kind), 1977’s RUBY sought to capitalize on the then-popular trend of possession movies which came in the wake of The Exorcist, while amping up old Hollywood nostalgia and unexpected gore amongst plentiful scenes of supernatural mayhem. Starring Piper Laurie in the titular role, fresh from her Academy Award-nominated turn in Carrie, alongside Stuart Whitman (The Comancheros, The Mark) and Roger Davis (TV’s Alias Smith and Jones), RUBY at long last arrives in its UHD world premiere courtesy of the drive-in deviants at Vinegar Syndrome, restored in 4K from its 35mm interpositive and loaded with a wealth of new and archival bonus features.

"A good 70s horror flic. I always like these movies on beautiful 4K restorations with fine grain. Fits perfectly into VS Line."
"Nice and clear on 4k. Some places a but fuzzy but no bad grany bits. One film I had not heard of before. If you want nice and strange this is worth checking out. Nice packaging too."
"a substantial visual upgrade over previous releases, though the movie itself remains a delightfully campy, highly uneven "Exorcist-ploitation" flick."
"I greatly enjoyed discovering this 1977 possession horror film via this superb 4K release. Highly recommended!"
"So happy to have this gorgeous transfer from VS! What an essential release of the macabre and cult horror!"
". . . only not nearly as good as either. This movie is quite bizarre. But even making a 4K of this is admirable!"
"I've always considered Ruby underrated, so was delighted to see VS give it the deluxe treatment. The previous Blu-ray looked abominable (along with prior home video releases), so this wonderful new restoration from the negative was a real revelation; it's actually rather well made. Maybe now the film will be reassessed, because I think it should be better thought of."
"Lovely picture and sound , interesting bonus features. If you like the movie it's well worth the price."
"Wanted to like this more but it wasn’t bad."
"The movie itself is ridiculous and lame, suited best for a drive-in setting (strangely enough the setting of the film itself). Piper Laurie is a lot of fun here, though not camp enough to put it over the top like it needs to be. The premise of the film fits right into that ‘70s aesthetic: the supernatural, parapsychology, nostalgia for the ‘50s, fallen woman made good - all of which are a lot of fun. The 4K looks excellent, rich with all of the reds that surround Ruby while she’s wearing red. The kills are ludicrous and in keeping with the mood of this whole thing. The special features are generous and well-done, as is VinSyn’s custom."
