Candice Norman operates the hottest dance academy in town, with hoards of hopefuls dying to be admitted, maybe literally. Shortly after a trio of new students are accepted into Candice’s tutelage, a young female pupil is found murdered on campus, stabbed through the heart with a long pin. With the backbiting staff and students alike all rendered possible suspects, Candice is also plagued by haunting dreams involving a sinister man. When Candice spots this man's face on a billboard, she decides to track him down, while yet another rising dance starlet winds up with a punctured heart. Is this handsome stranger as dangerous as the man in her dreams? Could a bloodthirsty maniac from outside the school be preying upon the dancers? Or has the intense competition between dancers and staff turned one of them into a depraved killer? And how does Candice herself factor into this shocking mystery?

Director Lucio Fulci’s (City of the Living Dead, The Beyond) final giallo and also his final film set in New York City, MURDEROCK (Murderock - Uccide a passo di danza), is amongst the maestro's last truly lavish productions, boasting stylized dance numbers (scored by legendary musician Keith Emerson) and surreal dream sequences between its labyrinthine mystery and gruesome killings. Starring Olga Karlatos (Zombie), Ray Lovelock (Autopsy), Claudio Cassinelli (Slave of the Cannibal God), Cosimo Cinieri (The New York Ripper), and featuring a guest appearance from Silvia Collatina (The House by the Cemetery), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings this late period giallo classic to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, exclusively restored from its 35mm camera negative and boasting an unparalleled selection of new and archival extras, including the first-ever interview with co-writer Gianfranco Clerici (Cannibal Holocaust), amongst many others.

Reviews

Still a good Fulci

"This Giallo doesn’t get a lot of love from Fulci fans but I really liked it. Spectacular 4K transfer from VinSyn. The cover art is eye catching."

Mathias S. (4/5)

Murderock rocks

"I really have no idea how the special packaging is still in stock, sure it’s a little goofy. And sure it’s not fulcis best haha - but does the music rock yes - is it absurd in the best gaillo way - yes - are there some great features - also yes. If you love the era of Italian horror and fulci … and haven’t seen this dive in! I’m reasonably sure you’ll be smiling 30 seconds in … transfer is what it is. Best looking this film will ever look… not a top shelf restoration … but not for a lack of effort and I was happy with the quality. Man the soundtrack to this film - gold."

J.D. R. (5/5)

Slashdance

"Surprisingly restrained giallo (I kinda hate when people use "giallo" for anything made outside of the 60s/70s, but it applies here) from Lucio. But not bad and looks great. Is it weird to describe this as feeling like a fun, laid-back hang with an old friend? Maybe I'm just too shellshocked from NY Ripper, I dunno. :D"

Paul H. (4/5)

Fulci’s answer to Flashdance

"This is a great Fulci film that was made just before he started having his budgets cut even further than they already were. Lots of extras on the release too. Worth seeing if you’re a fan of Lucio Fulci and want to see one of his lesser takes about films."

Rene R. (5/5)

Great release for a very fun oddball horror film

"Murderock is weird, stylish, and very 80s in the best way. The mix of dance school drama and murder mystery gives it a really unique feel, and the atmosphere carries it even when it gets a bit messy. Not top-tier Fulci for me, but still a very enjoyable watch and an easy one to appreciate in a release like this."

Thomas L. (4/5)

A great Fulci giallo

"I liked this movie. The transfer looks very good and the story is great as well. Also the packaging is great."

Jelmer B. (5/5)

Murder-Rock: Dancing Death

"Great 4k release. The best this movie has ever looked. Also, great packaging and artwork."

Jason P. (5/5)

80s dance Time

"Love this movie I stand by it. Lots of fun a great giallo. Turns a hard check and awesome music."

Jay L. (5/5)

Paranoia is coming your way

"Murder-Rock: Dancing Death is a late giallo directed by Lucio Fulci that mixes murder mystery with the flashy style of the 1980s dance world. Set in a New York dance academy, the story follows a series of brutal murders targeting the students, turning the competitive environment into a tense and paranoid nightmare. The 4K release from Vinegar Syndrome presents the film with a new restoration that highlights its neon lighting, colorful cinematography, and synth-heavy atmosphere. While not one of Fulci’s most famous works, Murder-Rock remains a fascinating and stylish curiosity from the final years of the giallo era."

Jaume M. (5/5)

Murderrock

"My favorite fulci film. Sue me. Best it's ever gonna look."
