Solid coming-of-age film
"Right from the start, the script treats its teenage characters with actual respect rather than relying on cheap camp tropes. The two lead performances are incredibly natural and ground the whole movie perfectly."
This listing is for the standard edition 4k Ultra HD/Blu-ray combo. The limited edition J-card MediaBook slipcase (designed by Nicole Rifkin) was limited to 8,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the limited edition packaging.
Taking its name from the Lumière Brothers invention of the same name, Cinématographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fill gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe will explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production. Curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome's Justin LaLiberty, each limited edition release will be housed in a specially designed, cloth-bound, media book with embossed foil titles and custom molded disc trays accompanied by a slipcase featuring newly commissioned art and an individually numbered J-card.
In the fleeting summer days of 1980, fifteen year old girls Ferris (Tatum O’Neal, Paper Moon) and Angel (Kristy McNichol, Two Moon Junction) attend Camp Little Wolf outside of Atlanta, Georgia as an escape from the city. Coming from different walks of life, with the privileged Ferris at odds with the scrappy, streetwise Angel, the two immediately end up in a disagreement during their bus ride to camp which is only exacerbated by their lodging accommodations once they arrive, bunking next to one another. Fueled by their competitive peers, the two enter into a contest to see who will lose their virginity first, Angel to camper from the other side of the lake Randy (Matt Dillon, Wild Things) or Ferris to camp counselor Gary (Armand Assante, Gotti). Through the trial, the two learn as much about each other as they do themselves, turning a ribald competition into budding days of friendship.
Long elusive on home video, Ron Maxwell’s (Gettysburg) charming teen sex comedy/drama is an evocative, and often very funny, antidote and precursor to the more raucous (and masculine) sex comedies of its era, including the similarly loss of virginity focused Porky’s and Losin’ It. Written by Dalene Young (The Baby-Sitters Club) and Kimi Peck, with lush on location photography by noted Czech cinematographer Bedřich Baťka (Marketa Lazarová), Cinématographe is proud to bring LITTLE DARLINGS to blu-ray and 4K UHD for the first time in the world, newly restored from archival elements and full of illuminating special features that tell the story of this contemporary coming-of-age classic.

"Excellent transfer and packaging!"
"I loved this film! I had never heard of it and it sounded interesting enough for a blind buy. Highly entertaining along with great performances by Kristy McNichol and Matt Dillon. I don't know why I'd never heard of it, but I'm glad I had the chance to buy it - it's a great plot and script and perfect casting. HIGHLY recommended if you like teen summer camp movies"
"To my surprise has mostly aged quite well thanks to the dignified empathy of it's screenplay and the seamless performances by the cast. An 80's sex-comedy should not have this much effort to be genuine and heartwarming but it is. I never get used to how beautiful 80's flicks look in 4K."
"Excellent film. Great video and audio presentation."
"Fantastic 4k restoration . They don't make movies like this anymore ! Fun throwback."
"The first release in the cinematographe line is definitely a must watch. Very good early 80s teen drama. Loved it!"
"“Don’t Let the Name Fool Ya” What happens at Girls Camp when you place a bet to see who can lose their virginity first? You fallow Ferris and Angel on their journey to losing their virginity. You see the fun and carefree to the serious heartfelt moments. This definitely isn’t a normal teenage sex comedy, it’s that and so much more. A coming of age from the female perspective during the 80’s. There is a fucking adorable and fantastic cast of individual characters, with Penelope being my favorite. Special Features Great interview with the director. The first time I’ve ever got teary eyed watching a special feature interview"
"A great first entry for Cinematographe. Long overdue for a quality home video release to even get eyes on it. The transfer looks great and the overall form of the release absolutely kills it. Really caring treatment for an underseen gem."
