Sardu, with the help of his dwarf servant Ralphus, operates New York’s most controversial theatre, Sardu's Theatre of the Macabre, where each performance is an expertly staged display of gruesome acts of torture. Divisive as his take on “entertainment” might be, arrogant theatre critic, Creasy Silo, is having none of it and makes it his mission to put an end to Sardu’s grisly “dramas.” However, what audiences and critics alike do not realize is that each of these shocking shows is completely real; with innocent nude women being maimed and murdered live on stage! When Sardu sets his eyes on beautiful ballerina Natasha, he’s immediately smitten and determines that she must “star” in his next production, whether she wants to or not, and that her stage partner will be none other than Creasy Silo…
A foundational film in establishing legendary genre cinema distributor, Troma Entertainment, Joel M. Reed’s masterpiece of gore-fueled debauchery, BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS (aka Sardu, Master of the Screaming Virgins), remains one of the most notorious, disgusting, shocking, perverse, and outrageously funny cult horror films to emerge from the sick and twisted 1970s. Starring acclaimed Shakespearian actor, Seamus O’Brien as the fiendish Sardu and Luis De Jesus (Let My Puppets Come) as the equally deranged Ralphus, and featuring a host of New York’s top sex starlets as the demented duo's assorted victims, Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to present the world 4K UHD debut of the fully uncut version of BLOOD SUCKING FREAKS, exclusively restored from the best surviving film elements and presented with a consummate selection of extras.

Reviews
Not for polite company
"Not sure what I was expecting when I picked this up, but this wasn’t it - Lives up to its legendary reputation by being completely tasteless and impossible to look away from. Not my cup of… blood, but Vinegar Syndrome has made an awesome release."
— Paul C. (3/5)
Still shocks today
"Super grim and shocking exploitation movie that still works today. The quality is stunning on this release."

Infamous Troma shocker
"I remember this film from my early days. First watched it on VHS when I had rented it and then got a Dutch DVD. They were all uncut, as far as I know. Even then, with all the slightly goofy banter between Sardu and his assistant and other people, I always found this straddled the line from fun-gore to distasteful-gore. It's sadistic and very grim, though there is also a chipper-and-cheerful attitude to it. Basically shot in a theatre somewhere, it's a film for a specific audience. I never would have thought this would receive a 4K version. It looks amazing, shedding earlier releases."

Crappy dismemberment in 4K
"It's shocking, gruesome, revolting. It's exploitation in the extreme kind of way. Not really enjoyable, ridiculous at some point. It might be a classic, but it won't be one for me."
— Luc T. (3/5)
An absolute must have!
"My Favorite Release! I’ve bought this film now on VHS, DVD, Bluray and now on 4K over the years… and THIS is my favorite presentation! The blood has been restored to its natural dark red hues and the film looks fantastic. What a deluxe package too! Great extra features and the FULL UNCUT version being presented! A must have!"

Unbelievable, Flawless Restoration Of A Classic Flick!
"The slipcase cover was awesome on this all-time classic flick! The movie was a very interesting watch from the beginning until the end! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture, and it is a revelation to watch now, almost like a brand-new film! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"
— Paul K. (5/5)
Freaky and bloody
"The over-the-top gore and gleefully grim scenarios found in ‘Blood Sucking Freaks’ pick up where the work of Herschell Gordon Lewis left off. But the film’s knowing, camp and somewhat tongue-in-cheek approach tends to soften its ability to shock and offend much of the time."
— Lee B. (4/5)
BLOODSUCKING DOESN'T SUCK!
"I had always heard of the title of this classic horror gem, but never had the opportunity to see it. . . until NOW! VinSyn's beautiful 4K UHD restoration had me glued to the TV every suck of the way! Definitely pick up if you loved "2000 MANIACS" or just have an eye for the weird and gory! Loaded with features such as commentaries and interviews and first editions come with a pretty cool reversible magnetic slipcover box! A++ release by VS!"

Joel M. Reed does for greasiness what Peter Jackson did for gore with Dead Alive.
"Synopsis: Demented Sardu runs what some might call an avant guard theatre with his little person assistant, and sometimes lover, Ralphis. The Theatre Macabre is way off-broadway stuff that involves actually torturing beautiful women to death on stage. A film critic doesn't particularly like this style of shock show so Sardu kidnaps him and holds him captive. This gets Sardu a thinking though, if he's ever going to class up his stage he's going to have to legitimize it somehow. He decides to kidnap world famous ballerina Natasha deNatalie to perform. She is hesitant to star in his play so they try to break her by subjecting her to torture as well as banging symbols really loud. Natasha's professional quarterback boyfriend has the crooked police scour the city looking for her. Review: This is quite possibly one of the sleaziest films around and Joel M. Reed does for greasiness what Peter Jackson did for gore with Dead Alive. Oh there's shocking gore too but it adds to the overall uneasiness that you feel when watching Bloodsucking Freaks. This could be just dismissed as depravity for the sake of being depraved but actors like Seamus O'Brien and Alan Dellay lend an air of credibility with some rather good performances to offset the eye candy of Viju Krem and Niles McMaster. It takes a sick mind to think up this stuff and an even sicker mind to somehow make it entertaining. Carnage Count 5/5 Sleaze Score 5/5"

Master, can we watch this again?
"Picked this up, as recommended, during Syntober 2025. :) MANY comical, twisted scenes, naked women everywhere - I was at one point, ready to reach through the screen and tear Sardu's pants off, to get some parity in there! You can tell in parts, that the actors were really having fun while filming, and I really enjoyed the BTS extras. I'm not too fussed about the unique slipcover, as it doesn't sit flush on the shelf, but do appreciate the creativeness behind it! The folds tend to bend the cardboard outer, so I chose to leave it as is. :) Can I get that *redacted* sandwich toasted, and. . on the bone, please? Om nom nom! :P"
