Invited away on a hen's weekend, Sissy is stuck in a remote cabin with her high school bully...and a taste for revenge. Cecilia (SISSY) and Emma were tween-age BFFs who were going to grow old together and never let anything come between them. That is, until Emma’s new friend Alex did just that. When Cecilia became the target of Alex’s bullying, it forced Cecilia and Emma apart. Twelve years later, Cecilia is a successful influencer living the dream... until she runs into Emma for the first time in over a decade and her world is turned upside down. Darkly comedic and unnervingly savage, SISSY is a satirical look at millennial self-victimisation in the social media age.

                      A Hen Party from Hell

"Kurtis David Harder’s Influencer, a wickedly entertaining, blood-soaked satire of the social media age, was the talk of Shudder in 2022. Meanwhile Down Under, writer-director team Kane Senes and Hannah Barlow came from behind with their own formidable entry into the Influencer From Hell subgenre. Like its older New Oz Horror cousin The Loved Ones, Sissy is a sparkly pink and girlish package bursting open to reveal throbbing red viscera and feminine rage. While the latter may not go nearly as hard as the former, Sissy both leans into its mean-spirited sense of fun and slots in some surprisingly brutal kills along the way. It’s also queer horror that’s sophisticated to examine the Bury Your Gays trope while also acknowledging, “Well, with assholes like these…” Shudder’s partner releases continue to impress. The transfer is excellent as expected and there’s plenty of after-show viewing in the extras. The slipcover is also of high quality, depicting journal entries that resemble Sissy’s discordant interior monologues slowly being engulfed by purple ooze, all rendered in spot gloss finishing. Sissy is queer horror done right. It’s dark and wonderfully nasty. And kinda cute."

"The slipcover is awesome, as always with anything VS or their awesome partner Labels release! It is a cool movie that was a lot of fun to watch! I always love the unique VS service of allowing you to stack as many movies as you like in your cart during any release period and ship them for free! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

                      Redeems Two Otherwise Tedious Genres

"I must confess to being over most new "queer horror" as a genre, as the best horror has always been a little queer and most recent attempts tend to be heavy-handed to the point of stupid and/or overtly political. Outside a few classics and satires, I'm not much for slashers either. But Sissy navigates both genres brilliantly. The characters are natural and believable and, while they speak the vapid cant of the millennial LGBTQ scene, the writing and performances thread the needle cleverly between sincerity and satire. In lesser hands, it would feel nihilistic, but the result is sufficiently self-aware and ironic that it strokes this Gen-X reviewer where it feels good. Along with Bodies Bodies Bodies, one of the best youth culture horrors I've seen this past decade."

                      Fun if not memorable flick

"Good presentation of a decently fun flick. Not sure if there’ll be much replay value for me but the packaging and presentation are excellent as always."
