The Untold Story 2 is basically a ’90s erotic thriller that slowly mutates into nasty Hong Kong Cat III horror, and that combination worked for me. Emotion Cheung is perfectly miserable as the husband trapped in a terrible marriage, while Paulyn Sun starts off surprisingly sympathetic before the movie reveals just how dark things are going to get. Anthony Wong showing up in a supporting role is a nice bonus too.
The movie definitely leans harder into the sexual side than the first Untold Story, but it still delivers the ugly violence you expect from the name. It’s trashy, uncomfortable, occasionally ridiculous, and exactly the kind of Cat III insanity I’m here for.
The Blu-ray looks surprisingly strong too. Vinegar Syndrome restored it in 2K from the original 35mm negative, and the VSA presentation is perfect for it — VHS-style slipcase, reversible artwork, and poster included.
Sleazy? Absolutely. Tasteful? Not even trying 😂. But as a grimy late-’90s Hong Kong exploitation movie, it delivers.

The Untold Story 2 is nowhere near as nasty or memorable as the first film, but I still had a decent time with it. It has plenty of sleaze, violence, and general unpleasantness, yet somehow feels a little more conventional than I expected. There are moments where it gets wonderfully grimy and unhinged, and those were easily the parts I enjoyed most, but it never quite builds into something truly wild. Taken on its own it is an entertaining bit of Hong Kong exploitation, just not one I can imagine returning to very often. Still, I am glad VS has brought it back, especially as these are exactly the sort of Hong Kong oddities I want to see getting releases.
