"I wanted to like this much more than I did, on paper this grindhouse inspired horror/western is right up my alley but mediocre performances and cheap production design undermine the experience for me. It was shot on film and there is some decent effects work so it's not all bad--the film's reach simply exceeds its grasp. There is a pair of commentaries on the disc, interviews, a Q&A, storyboards and behind the scenes."

There's some solid fun and I appreciate the effort to use real film, but the pacing, logic, and some performances constantly remind you that you're in try-hard Tubi level filmmaking beyond that. "I love Spaghetti westerns and exploitation revenge movies like THRILLER, both of which director Austin Snell pays hommage to in this film, shot on 16mm Kodak film. He tries his best to emulate an early 70s Euro Western, but it didn't really work for me. Most of the time I could not shake the feeling of contemporary people being dressed like Western characters walking through artifical sets. That's kind of set, as I appreciate the love and care Snell put into his work. Unfortunately the illusion is being even more flawed by some cheap looking CGI shots (gore, blood sprays, fire, smoke). Also I didn't really root for our main character and her motivations. The best scene is a very painful one to watch and reminded me of a certain Jörg Buttgereit movie. Ouch! I did not watch much of the special features, since I didn't enjoy the movie that much. There's a ton of Interviews and a Q&A from a screening."
"I had heard some bad things about this film, but I dug the hell out of it. Sure, some of the acting isn't that great, but this is a pure grindhouse type exploitation film. I'm not looking for Oscar performances from that. It's got a real simple revenge storyline with a little bit of supernatural angle thrown in as well. I really had a good time with this one."

Yes, there are points where the camerawork fails but I could forgive as our lead sought her bloody vengeance. Our lead actress was the biggest highlight as she killed the role she was given and the film left me wanting some more of this."
"They Call Her Death is a gritty, low-budget revenge Western made with genuine affection for Italian genre cinema and 1970s grindhouse films. The simple story follows Molly Pray on a bloody personal crusade, mixing gunfights, practical gore and a slight supernatural edge. The deliberately grainy 16mm photography gives the film an authentic period atmosphere, even though the modest production occasionally shows its limitations. The Blu-ray preserves that rough handmade look nicely, while the commentaries, making-of material, interviews and other extras provide an unusually generous look behind the scenes. A passionate and entertaining exploitation throwback, presented with the care such independent filmmaking deserves."
"I like the girl revenge movies, and this one happens to be one that I find interest in. It was a blind buy and didn't think I would like it but it was a lil bloody fun film."
"Her hearing seems fine to me, but whatever! Good casting though. . . with her long chin and tiny mouth, she has a permanently p1ssed off expression which is perfect for the role. This has been shot on film and would look fantastic, were it not for the digital effects added later. Every time you see those effects, it takes you out of the film and that entirely destroys the point of movies. Also, maybe I was imagining it but I could've sworn I heard cars driving past in some scenes. Closeups and other shots look good, they are in keeping with the style of the old spaghetti westerns, but then a digital effect goes and ruins it. Oh, and if you want an authentic look of the wild west then you need to travel to the Almería region of Spain. All this grass and stuff, filmed in America. . . America doesn't look like that! All in all, it's okay. B+ for effort, but it's a D in execution."
